The changes undergone by photography in the past 25 years – digitalization, online publication and the use of computer technology in photography – have dramatically changed our relationship to the image. The post-photographic era can be characterized by the speed at which images are shared and circulated, allowing for the emergence of new photographic possibilities: novel associations, interpretations and strategies.

Where Does the Future Get Made? by James Ramer, artist, professor, exhibition curator and currently the Director of the Photography Department at Parsons School of Design in New York, brings together 28 artists\photographers who have all contributed to redefining the practice of photography, each in their own unique way. Their work challenges and defies traditional expectations about photography, all broadening the public’s understanding of photographic vocabulary and techniques. Coming from countries as culturally different as the United States, France, Germany, Italy, Iran, and China, to name just a few, the photographers explore important issues such as the rapid sharing and circulation of online images, the malleability of history and time in today’s IT environment, as well as notions of identity in the era of social media, the impact of new technology, etc. In so doing, they raise thought-provoking questions and engage in the debate about our future.
